For the past ten years, Tracy and Martina have been household names for Atlantic Canadians at home and abroad. At first glance the comedy duo may appear as clownish party girls, but their cultural significance runs deeper. Tracy and Martina embrace and embody countless Atlantic Canadian cultural norms and quirks, which is why they’ve slowly acquired a cult-like following since starting in 2013. 

Through comedy, Tracy and Martina symbolize the pride Atlantic Canadians hold in their unique culture(s), regardless of how the rest of the world views them. The duo refuses to assimilate to the dominant culture by embracing their regional accents, and shamelessly sharing their stories of low-income living, while demonstrating how to find positivity and light in their community. Atlantic Canadians are known for warmth, hospitality, and a light-hearted self acceptance, which Tracy and Martina exemplify in everything they do. Although they might be rough around the edges, that’s what makes Tracy and Martina an accurate, over-exaggerated, yet relatable representation of rural Atlantic Canadian life.
